THOUGHTS ON THE LORD’S DAY

“Whose hands are holding your future?”

John 20:20 says, “He (Jesus) showed them His hands.”

Jesus’ hands, hands that had ministered life, blessing and healing to so many, were now deeply wounded because of the Roman executioners. For those first disciples, there was never a more helpless image than Jesus hanging on that cross with spikes driven through his hands.

The disciples, who had hoped He was the Messiah, now cowered in darkness and fled into the night. Two days later, they were hiding in fear wondering what to do. When suddenly, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then showed them His hands. The scars of His battle with the sin of all mankind now moved them from doubt and fear to belief and hope!

For his remaining days on earth, Jesus chose to minister through those scars as a lasting image of wounded humanity. That’s why I know God hears our prayers and understands our pain. On this Resurrection Sunday, our hope is not in the work of our hands or the hands of any other human being, but in God’s hands alone.

Concerns over coronavirus have torched hundreds of billions in paper wealth from the world’s billionaires over the past month. The world’s richest person, Jeff Bezos, lost $7 billion in paper wealth overnight, and more than $18 billion over the past month. The work of his hands, gone in the blink of an eye!

In less than a month, America, the mightiest nation on earth, has been brought to her knees. The home of the brave and land of the free is now struggling with problems she’s never faced before. I pray that this crisis is the catalyst for her return to the faith statement our forefathers engraved on our currency, “In God We Trust.”

Allstate Insurance Company says, “You’re in good hands with Allstate.” However, the Bible says there is a far greater place of security, in the hands of our Heavenly Father.

“My father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hands.” John 10:28.

Jesus is alive today and He lives forevermore! Put your life in His hands, His nail-scarred hands. It’s the only place that offers not only true peace and safety from the challenges of life, but a place where your life has infinite value and hope for a better tomorrow.
