THOUGHTS ON THE LORD’S DAY

“America no longer knows how to blush.”

“Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not ashamed; they did not even know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time I punish them, they shall be overthrown,” says the Lord. Jeremiah 6:15

How did we as a nation get here?

For over 50 years our babies were being murdered before they were even born. Now it’s ok to murder them while they are being born. Our children are being indoctrinated with secular humanism from the nursery school through college. Our young adults are being confronted with a staggering number of ideologies and faith options, all competing for public and private attention.

Many faith options have existed for years in America, but never the demand for parity as exists today. Truth, grace, forgiveness and God’s abiding presence is no longer found one way, but many ways.

Biblical Christianity is under brutal attack on the grounds that it argues for an unchanging and universal truth. A particular truth used to be judged on the basis of what was perceived to be true. Now faith is wrong for claiming there even is unquestionable truth.

This moral relativism and anti-God worldview, taught with vengeance by secular humanists, is polluting the minds of now the second generation of America’s children and youth. What is true for you is true for you. What is true for me is true for me. Each person must make their own moral choices based on their own perception of what they believe to be true.

Moral values are now a matter of personal opinion or private judgement rather than something grounded in objective truth. To quote the prophet Jeremiah, at best, we know longer know how to blush, or worse, even think we need to. The passion for knowledge without accountability, maintains that each person is independent in terms of accountability and self-determination.

One of the great themes of the 21st Century is “emancipation,” the desire for independence from all authority, including a transcendent God. Jean Paul Sartre said, “Man is the being whose project is to be God.”

The “I, Me, Mine” mentality that places personal pleasure and fulfillment at the forefront of all concerns, has produced an America that no longer knows how to blush and elects leaders who carry no sense of shame for murdering 54 million babies since 1973.

What a sad week for America! The country that I and so many others a generation ago, went a continent away to fight to defend life, now celebrates with twisted glee and high fives the right to take a life, even the most defenseless.

God help us to learn to blush again!
